Getting here
Ferries to Roatan, Utila and Guanaja
Every sailing from both operators on one board, with an honest read on how rough the crossing is today.
Leaving Roatan
Four departures a day between the two companies, from docks a few minutes apart at Dixon Cove.
Leaving La Ceiba
The rougher direction: this run goes into the incoming swell.
Leaving Roatan
Dream only. Galaxy Wave still advertise this crossing but sell no seats on it.
Leaving Utila
A day trip only works in this direction: out at 10:20, back on the 2:00.
Leaving Roatan
Two days a week, and nobody else runs it. No return discount: a round trip is exactly two singles.
Leaving Guanaja
Carrying on to the mainland? See the La Ceiba ↔ Guanaja tab.
Leaving La Ceiba
The one crossing where Galaxy Wave is clearly cheaper, but they run it once a week against Dream's seven.
Leaving Utila
Both from the Muelle de Cabotaje.
Leaving La Ceiba
No direct boat. Guanaja sailings route through Roatan, so this is one ticket and two legs. Friday only, arriving early afternoon.
Leaving Guanaja
Saturday only. Through fare is $100 regular or $119 first, return.
Prices are one way unless marked, with the upgrade fare in gray beneath. Dream fares land on odd amounts at checkout and move with the exchange rate, so they show as approximate. Checked August 2026.

Usually easier, running with the sea rather than into it.

Comfortable
Open-water swell outside the reef: what the crossing actually meets, not the calm you see from the beach.
The docks
who to call
Roatan
Dixon Cove, between Coxen Hole and French Harbour
Both operators are at Dixon Cove, minutes apart. Miss one boat and the other company's counter is walking distance. Dream open at 5:30 am for their 6:30 sailing, the earliest anything runs.
La Ceiba
Muelle de Cabotaje, eastern La Ceiba (free parking)
The only terminal that charges port tax, and only on the way out. Kiosk before boarding, takes card.
Utila
Calle Principal, by the Municipal Dock
Dream run Utila daily and are the ones to call here. Galaxy Wave only call in once a week from La Ceiba.
Know before you go
Book online, skip the counter
Ticket on your phone, drop your bag, scan and walk in, while the line at the counter does paperwork you already did.
Early enough to pick your seat
There is no real check-in deadline, but a few minutes early lets you choose. The open-air seating is the best on the boat on the right day, and fully exposed on the wrong one.
Port tax leaving the mainland only
Paid at a kiosk in La Ceiba before boarding, separately from your ticket. Takes card. Nothing to pay leaving Roatan.
What the upgrade gets you
A lounge and a wristband, not a smoother ride. On both boats that seating is forward, right behind the wheelhouse.
If you get seasick
Sit low and mid-ship, not forward. Take whatever you take before boarding; most of it needs half an hour. If you do not get seasick, ignore all of this.
Wind and rain mean delays
Cancellations happen and the operators call it on the morning. Do not book a flight out of La Ceiba for the same afternoon you cross.
