Areas of Roatan

West End

One sand road along the water, with the island's best concentration of restaurants, dive shops and evenings out.

West End

West End is a village rather than a resort. One road runs along the water, roughly from Café de Palo to Brisas del Mar, lined with dive shops, small kitchens and bars, with the reef just offshore. Locals, dive instructors, travelers and people who came for a week and stayed years all share the same street.

It is where much of the island eats and where most visitors learn to dive, and it has Roatan's liveliest evenings, with sunset drinks on the water and dinner a few steps away.

Come here if

You are here to dive or snorkel, you want restaurants and bars within walking distance, and you like being somewhere with a lively, friendly village feel.

On the ground

Half Moon Bay
The sheltered bay at the north end of the village, with calm water for a swim and reef close to shore. West Bay Beach is ten minutes away by water taxi for a full beach day.
Getting here
Water taxis run between West End and West Bay through the day, about ten minutes each way and a lovely ride. Taxis cover the evenings.
Cash
Most restaurants and dive shops take cards. Street food stands and water taxis are cash, so carry some small bills.
Cruise days
Lunchtime is busiest when ships are in port. Check the ship schedule if you would like a quieter table.
Sunset
West End faces west, so sunset over the water is the evening ritual. Find a deck, order a drink and watch the sky.
Evenings
Bring repellent for dusk on the sand, and enjoy the walk along the strip after dinner.
